Matt Johnston and Bob Russell founded Collective Arts Brewing on two beliefs: The first that creativity fosters creativity. And the second, that creativity yields delicious pints.

Collective Arts is comprised of creative thinkers, designers and brewers, and we are united in the lofty notion of raising the creative consciousness through the sociability of craft beer.

Collective Arts Brewing brings together the talents of inspired brewers who are on the forefront of craft brewing with the cultural influences of artists and musician.

We see each of our beers as a work of art. On the inside, we proudly brew some of the most well-crafted beers.  On the outside, we feature limited-edition works of art by artist and musicians. Three times a year we introduce a new label series, with each one intended to stimulate, delight and inspire our drinkers while generating further awareness and appreciation for the talented artists who are curated for the labels. The global response has been nothing short of amazing, with artists from Canada and the US, the UK, South Africa, Hungary, Australia, Italy, Spain and Russia, among others. Visual artists Dan Springer, Monika Grubzina, Eduardo Bartone, Emilio Santoya, Steve Simpson, Lola Gill and so many other talented artists have appeared on our limited edition labels. Bands including of Montreal, The Operators, k-os, Jamestown Revival, PHOX, Metz, PUP, July Talk, Said the Whale and The Strumbellas have all answered our calls for art. We are overwhelmed with gratitude to be working alongside such talents.

Through augmented reality and the technology of our partner Blippar, all labels come to life through the free Blippar mobile phone app. Simply scan the label and hear the music, see the videos and view artist bios.

Since Collective Arts launched in September 2013, we have continued to engage our drinkers by connecting the experience of enjoying our beer to the musicians and artists, in turn creating new fans with artists and beer lovers.  This is ART + BREWING.

Of course, it isn’t all about the labels. Collective Arts Brewing has been voted ratebeer.com Best New Brewery in Ontario for 2013 and our Rhyme & Reason was awarded the Canadian Brewing Award’s  Gold Medal as the Best Pale Ale in Canada in 2014 and is amongst the top rated APAs in Canada according to Untappd.com and Ratebeer.com.

Our beer line up now includes; Rhyme & Reason, Extra Pale Ale, Saint of Circumstance, our Any-Time Blonde Ale, State of Mind, Session IPA, Ransack the Universe, a Hemisphere IPA and Stranger Than Fiction, Porter.

We’ve had a wild ride so far, from being the Official Beer of the Polaris Music Prize 2013 and 2014, to working with street artists by curating Collective Arts events like The Alliance and our participation with NXNE ART, and to joining forces with radio station, Indie88; bringing exclusive content from current bands right to the beer in your hands with theCollective Arts Black Box Sessions.

Our journey has also brought us to our new home: Together with Nickel Brook Brewing Co. we are building a brewing facility in Hamilton, Ontario.   We plan on starting to brew May 2015 – timed perfectly with the city’s new urban and cultural revitalization.

With our new home comes new beers and exciting collaborations. Add to this a tap room, retail store, live music space and art gallery and we could not have asked for a more perfect place to continue to share ART + BREWING with you. Keep checking back here for all the latest. And of course, we could not do this without the participation and support of the artists and our drinkers for whom we say a massive thank you and cheers!
