NORTH BAY, ONTARIO At 4 pm on Wednesday 23 September 2015, the New Ontario Brewing Company will open its doors to the public. An opening ceremony will be held at the brewery’s location at 1881 Cassells Street in North Bay. North Bay Mayor His Worship Al McDonald will be attending the event and will receiving the first glass of beer poured from the newly opened craft brewery.
Owners Dan Delorme, Mike Harrison, and Ron Clancy will be on hand to serve the fresh beers, lead tours, and answer any brewing related questions. For brewmaster Mike Harrison, this moment is the realization of a dream that he has had for some time and has taken 21 months of active planning and sweat equity. Harrison, an officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force, began this project in earnest after returning from Afghanistan in late 2013. He teamed with Clancy, himself a 17-year veteran of the Canada Forces with the Royal Canadian Navy, and Delorme, a contractor and childhood friend of Harrison.
The brewery will be open for sales of beer by the glass or in growlers, a 1.9L glass bottles that are roughly equal to 4 pints or a standard 6-pack. Glasses of beer go for $5 and growler fills start at $11 for the company’s flagship Blonde Ale. Other beers on tap at opening will include an English Pale Ale and a hoppy India Pale Ale. Seasonal beers will be introduced in short order, with a pumpkin spice ale already in production. Two ounce samples of all the beers are always available so customers can experiment with different beers and find the ones that they like best.
The brewery hours will be 4pm-11pm Tuesday and Wednesday, 11am-11pm Thursday-Saturday, and 11am-9pm Sunday. Due to licence restrictions, by-the-glass sales end at 9pm nightly, though off sales can continue until close. The storefront is closed on Mondays to focus on production.
"We are very excited to bring the craft beer revolution and some exciting, full-flavoured beers to North Bay. The early response has been outstanding and I’m really looking forward to hearing what people think of what we’ve made here."
- Mike Harrison, Brewmaster and President
Owners Harrison, Delorme, and Clancy would like to express their gratitude to the City of North Bay, the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC), NECO Community Futures, and all of the craft beer enthusiasts who have been as eagerly awaiting this opening as the owners.
The five stainless steel brewing vessels inside the New Ontario Brewing Company can hold up to 100 barrels or 12,000L of beer at a time.
The new company opens just over 100 years after the original New Ontario Brewing Company, which operated on North Bay’s waterfront from 1905-1915, was destroyed by fire.
New Ontario Brewing Company launched its new website (www.newontariobrewing.com) last Friday. The company also maintains a significant social media presence on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (@NewOntarioBrew). Craft beer fans are also invited to check in and rate the beers on the Untappd app.
